Did you ever...

See an old photograph that really brought back the memories? This recently happened to me. I was reading the Paducah Sun newspaper, and noticed an article they had printed from the Lyon County newspaper. Since I am a proud graduate of the Lyon County High School class of 1969, this particular story piqued my interest.

Larry McNeelyI got on the website, clicked on the decade of the 1960's, clicked on baseball, and lo and behold there was a picture of the 1968-69 Lyon County Lyons baseball team. I was a "lean, mean, pitching machine" for that team. Now, about 40 years and 100 pounds later, the memories flood my mind.

I remember a good buddy of mine (who shall be nameless because of my fear of future retribution) on that team who once drank bleach on a dare, and would gather a bunch of little kids together at the ball field, throw a double handful of coins into the air and "cackle with glee" as the youngsters pummeled each other trying to recover that treasure. Now, that's entertainment!

Each one of those young men's faces brought back memory after memory. Those really were the "good ol' days", but at the time I didn't realize it.

I also clicked on the link that showed our basketball cheerleaders of 1968-69. I had a "crush" on two of them, but I never told them. I was so shy back then.

I have had a lot of fun with this photograph. I printed it off and showed it to various people: my daughter, some friends, the young people in the Sunday School class that I teach, and other people in church. I asked them to find me, in the picture. Almost everyone guessed wrong. One "dear" brother at church wanted to know if we "used gloves back then." Ouch!

So I personally want to thank the Paducah Sun and the authors of this website for helping an old man feel young again.
